Judges Wanted! Chamber’s Scholarship Essay Contest

Do you have a passion for the written word? Would you like to assist in awarding college scholarships to our deserving high school students?
For the past three years, the Chamber has awarded a $1,000 scholarship in partnership with Astoria Bank. This year we are proud to announce the addition of two more scholarships of $ 500 each.

Please be among our select group of POB Chamber of Commerce members who will have the honor of reading and choosing this year’s scholarship winners. We will meet on Monday, April 20th at the POB Library at 6:00pm to read the essays. It should take approximately 90 minutes of your time. Refreshments will be provided.

The essay topic for the $1,000 co-sponsored scholarship is: “What Plainview-Old Bethpage Means to Me.” For the additional two $500 scholarships, the topic is geared to business: “How My Business Proposal Will Change Plainview-Old Bethpage Ten Years from Now.”

Last year’s entries were eclectic and entertaining – it was hard to choose a winner! This year we have three to choose. Please join us as we recognize and reward POB’s hardworking students. So far the following members have offered to read:

Glenn Corbett, Astoria Bank
Andrea Goldman, The Family College Experience
Shari Lazarus, Baked Sweet
Ben Pearlman, Positive Pest Control
Tami Racaniello, It’s Time to Get Fit
Dr. Jennifer Rubin Frisch
Jodie Feist, Spectacular Eyewear
