New members at breakfast Nov 2108A meeting held by the Women’s Group, the general membership meeting plus networking and our biannual new members breakfast made November a busy and meaningful month. On November 8th, the Women’s Group meeting attendees networked and noshed at a wine and chocolate tasting event while kicking off a fundraising campaign for the chamber’s charity partner, Birthday Wishes.

Thanks to member Laurel Scarr-Konel for donating a percentage of sales from her Cocoa Exchange business for this great cause.

The following week, the membership met on the 14th, one week early due to the Thanksgiving holiday falling on the 22nd. The POB JFK High School Virtual Enterprise group presented its business ideas for the year and engaged with chamber members as “virtual customers.” The interaction continued as some of the students were invited to various chamber committee meetings to learn more about budgeting and other aspects of running a business. Bob Cohen, independent copier broker and Mike Palazzolo of Island Signs and Graphics were the meeting’s spotlight speakers. There was also an open discussion on what the chamber could do to make membership even more valuable. Mike Palazzolo suggested having a 5K run for charity, noting that these types of events can forge a strong community connection.

Later that week the chamber held a new members’ breakfast at the Marriott. Twenty business owners were able to share what they do and interact with board members and each other in this unique setting.

Last but not least, on to November 20th when relatively new member Central Island Healthcare hosted a pre-Thanksgiving networking evening. The complimentary event drew about 25 members and guests who enjoyed a light supper and left with a cozy throw blanket gift. Executive Director Michael Ostreicher proudly introduced some of his dedicated staff members who echoed his sentiments about the high level of care at the recently renovated facility.
