It’s a Wrap! October Included Multiple Meetings, Events

In addition to the chamber’s annual golf outing on the 7th that kicked off the month of October (See full article in Latest News), there were three other activities that chamber members and guests took part in: the candidates forum and membership meeting on the 20th; evening networking at the Main Event on the 27th and a chamber Women’s Group meeting the next night, on the 28th. A busy month!

At the candidates forum, held early that Wednesday morning at The Residences at Plainview, several local politicians addressed questions from attendees and debated the issues. Topics included the necessity of election direct mail; road improvement efforts and the Hicksville redevelopment project. Among those in attendance were Nassau County Legislator Arnold Drucker; Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and his opponent, Amanda Field; Town Councilman Louis Imbroto and others running for seats on the town board including Lisa Reinhardt, Reema Rasool, and Nicky Kaur.

The following Wednesday evening, members had another opportunity to gather; this time it was outdoors, under the tent at The Main Event Plainview. The 25 or so in attendance enjoyed mingling and noshing on appetizers. As usual, the chamber held a 50/50 raffle at the event to help raise awareness and funds for its current charity partner, Rebecca Koltun (Help Hope Live). Audrey Koltun, Rebecca’s mom, joined us and gave an update on Rebecca’s progress and the exorbitant costs associated with her care. October events concluded with a virtual Women’s Group meeting the next night. Thanks to Northwell’s Christine Patti who arranged it, the dozen members on the call were educated by Colleen M Chiariello, MS, RD, CDN, Chief Clinical Dietician at Northwell’s Syosset Hospital. Focusing on healthy eating during the holidays, Colleen offered a presentation and then generously took myriad questions for about 45 minutes afterward! We all learned so much about various topics ranging from smart cocktail choices, food preparation (swap out the butter for olive or coconut oil) to the need for nutritional supplements.
