Let’s Leap into the Year!
We all know that 2016 is a Leap Year. Here are some interesting facts about Leap Year (all of which I found in various sources on the internet):
A leap year is also known as an intercalary year or a bissextile year. (Who knew?) A person born on February 29 may be called a “leapling” or a “leaper.” (Not a nickname I want). In order to be a Leap Year, it has to be divisible by 4, but century years are not leap years unless they are divisible by 400. (You have to be mathematician to figure this stuff out). Apparently, we need leap years to synchronize our calendar with Earth’s orbit around the sun and the actual passing of the seasons (I thought that’s what a smart phone was for!)
Because it’s a Leap Year we have an extra day to do all the great things we love to do!
At the Chamber we took advantage of this “extra” day to have a great celebration at our Annual Paid-Up Membership Dinner! It really was wonderful to see the support we have and to socialize and network in a fun environment. More people attended this year’s Dinner than ever before—the room was busting at the seams! By all accounts, everyone had a great time with laughs galore provided by comedienne Sherry Davey! We were able to honor Alex Wolff and Robert Kothe for their time in making our Commercial Workshop a success. Barbara Mars, our welcoming and enterprising Chamber Assistant was honored for all the “ultra great” work she does! A special shout out goes to Dinner sponsors Jeff & Bryan Trugman of Attitude Financial Advisors and Linda Herskowitz of Mary Kay Cosmetics for helping make the Dinner a great night. Kudos to Rod Zuch of the Morgan Center for sharing his family’s story and the success they’ve had, including raising their daughter Morgan! As a result of our members’ generosity we raised over $1,100.00 for the Morgan Center! Thank you to all our members and supporters who donated wonderful raffle prizes, including Beechwood’s 56” TV! I’m predicting that next year, if our Chamber continues to grow, we’ll have a 70” TV to raffle off!
We’re continuing with interesting events and programs. Don’t forget to attend the Networking Event hosted by Erika Cole Salon on March 23rd–should be lots of fun with networking and haircutting (that’s a combination we all have to experience!)
Our March meeting is March 16th and planning for the Annual Fair is going to start soon. The 911 Memorial Committee continues to meet and plan for a monument-memorial to 911. We’re also experimenting with a cooperative advertising effort spearheaded by Fred Morante of Minuteman Press and we’re still working on developing a ListServ for Chamber members and we’ve published our first-ever Membership Directory.
Want to get involved? Contact me, Barbara Mars or any Board member. We’d love to have you participate.
Let’s Leap into the year and continue to do the wonderful things that make us successful—connecting with our colleagues, doing business together, promoting each other, offering superior services and products, and committing to a great environment for our business and community.
