President’s Message Summer 2017

The Chamber’s motto is “Live, Work & Play.” Summer is a good time to take advantage of the “play” part. I hope you all enjoy some relaxing vacation time this July and August. I know I am looking forward to it. As the song goes, “See you in September” with a new President’s Message. Bon Voyage!

Looking to the Future

We sadly and unexpectedly lost a dear friend, Marcia Finkelstein, who was a Chamber board member, volunteer and champion of the POB community. Marcia’s attitude was always positive and upbeat. She was passionate about her family, her community and exuded warmth and charm. While many people Marcia’s age “retire” both from work and community activities, Marcia didn’t and continued in her business activities and community activism. She was tireless and always looked to the future.

I think Marcia would be very happy with our recent Board elections when four “new” members were elected: Andrea Goldman, Alan Goldberg, David Weinstein & Ned Marzigliano. These new board members promise to bring new energy and new ideas to the Chamber that will continue to make the Chamber exciting, vibrant and relevant to our members and the POB Community. As Marcia would say, the future looks bright indeed!

Don’t forget to attend our always-popular BBQ (with delicious food provided by Coliseum Kitchen) on June 21st at Haypath Park. This is a LUNCH meeting and is lots of fun–there will be live music, great food and great schmoozing! We’ll have special presentations to make to POB Cares, the Charity the Chamber has “adopted” this past year. Don’t miss this annual event. If it rains (it wouldn’t dare!) we’ll move the festivities into the Clubhouse.

As summer approaches (Where’s the good weather?!), the Chamber continues to work and offer great programs and events. Do you want to go to camp? You’re going to have your chance on June 8th as Mark Hemmerdinger of Crestwood Day Camp & School hosts a networking event at the camp. Come dressed for fun—Mark promises lots of camp activities, including zip line! This is a can’t miss event—dress casually—if you wear a suit & tie, lose the tie!  Mark your calendar for July 11th for a summer networking event hosted by TD Bank.

Our Golf Outing is on par for a hole in one! Spots are limited and selling out. This joint event with Westbury-Carle Place Chamber of Commerce and will be held at Tam O’Shanter Golf Club on August 17th. The event includes a round of golf, lunch on the course, a sumptuous dinner with an open bar. If you’re not a golfer—no worries—you can join us for dinner. Don’t miss out.

Fall Festival Flyer NewFinalPlanning for the Fall Festival—Arts, Crafts & More is in full swing. Our premier event will be held on Sunday, October 1st at the POB Library and will be better than ever. We have a new look and new promoter, Preferred Promotions, who will supply unique vendors that hand-make/design their own crafts & products, as well as food vendors. Entertainment will be  stellar and most importantly, the sun will be out! (Keep your fingers crossed!)

Opportunities for sponsorships—from Platinum to Journal Ads are all available. Sponsorships offer great value to showcase your business and have it promoted from now until the Fall Festival. It’s great exposure and a great way to support the Chamber and community. The earlier you sponsor, the more Bang for the Buck you’ll receive in terms of promotion and exposure for your business. We are going to offer some new programs and committees for members to join. We’re going to organize a Speaker’s Bureau to identify speakers for our events, including members, as well as promote our members as speakers to other community organizations. We’re going to form a “special interest group” geared to women in our Chamber.
