President’s Message May 2018

May Day! May Day!

I walked out of my home this morning and I couldn’t believe what I saw—sunshine with a hint of warmth! Winter is finally over and spring is springing! Nothing better that a dose of sun and warm temperatures to get you going and put you in a positive frame of mind!

Looking at our Chamber, I see positives wherever I look: growing membership, engagement of members, strong attendance at meetings and networking events, and members connecting to learn about each other and collaborate in business ventures. One great example of this is our newly formed POB Chamber Women’s Group which has debuted to rave reviews. Come to the next meeting on May 22nd.

One super positive sign that our Chamber is thriving is the great work our Fall Festival Committee, under Ned Marzigliano’s leadership, is doing. Planning is under way by this dedicated committee and this year’s event looks like it’s going to be bigger & better! More sponsorship opportunities, with added value are available. Take advantage of the “early bird” specials to secure even greater value for your sponsorship. CLICK HERE TO BE A SPONSOR.

Another positive sign is interest in joining the Board. This year, we will have four new members joining, bringing their collective skills, energies and ideas to our organization. We need you for the May 16th General Meeting—come down and be part of a Quorum—our by-laws require 25% of our membership to be present to conduct elections. As we grow each year, that number continues to increase. This year, a quorum will be 47 members (How many members do we have? Let’s do the math!) Be part of the Quorum—come on down to the meeting at Somerset Gardens where we’ll have a sumptuous breakfast provided by our wonderful hosts! We’re counting on you—literally! Let’s have a great turnout.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for May 8th, when Ridgewood Savings Bank will be hosting a networking event at their branch located in Harmon Shopping Center. Brian Bernstein and his team are going to host a great nite with refreshments, networking, and prizes. Click here for more details.

Planning for the Golf Outing is continuing, under the leadership of Andrew Lamkin and Howard Rosenthal. Spots are limited. So if you’re a duffer who wants to show his and/or her stuff, RSVP for this joint event in partnership with the Carle Place-Westbury Chamber of Commerce. And if you’re not a golfer, there is a Dinner Only option that won’t disappoint. CLICK TO RSVP.

Last, but certainly not least, is the Memorial Day Parade. The Chamber has always had a strong presence at this fun, important community event. March with the Chamber or march under your own company’s banner. Either way, it’s a great way to show your support for our community. P.S. Like today, sunshine is guaranteed (maybe!) for the Parade. T-Shirts for all Chamber participants!

There’s a boatload of events and activities to participate it! Don’t forget to come to the May 16th General Meeting. We’re counting on you (literally!) to help make a Quorum.

I look forward to seeing you!

Elan Wurtzel, President
