President’s Message: December 2014

How fast has this year gone by? Wow! Before you know it, we’ll all be at the beach or golf course!
For many of our retail members, this time of year is critical for their success. The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce has produced a great video that’s been on television and social media sites promoting Nassau County and the theme of
Shopping Locally.

Our Chamber is working to improve our members’ on-line presence in the Internet market, which is becoming critical to success. In the next few weeks, we will be unveiling our new website, which will be sleek and modern, and will allow each of us to have our own page. Besides being user-friendly, having your own page will enhance your on-line presence and together with your other marketing efforts, can lead to increased business opportunities. The website will also allow us to communicate more efficiently and promote the Chamber and our members. (This may result in fewer e-mails!)
Our membership is growing, in part, because of the recognition that Chamber membership adds value and credibility to our businesses. One important study commissioned by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives found that Chamber membership communicates to customers and clients that the member engages in good business practices; customers and clients believe that a company’s active Chamber membership results in higher quality services and products and a greater degree of credibility and trustworthiness. One very important statistic from this study:

“When clients and customers know that a business is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, they are 49% more likely to think favorably of it and 80% more likely to do business with the member.”

What’s the lesson to be learned from this study? Join the Chamber; promote your membership in the Chamber; and become active in the Chamber. All this can translate into more business and increased loyalty from customers and clients.

I hope to see you at the last meeting of the year. Legislator Judy Jacobs will be our guest speaker, discussing the state of affairs in Nassau County. Join us, listen to her presentation and ask questions. We’re also having a great networking event on January 8th, hosted by Coastal Cabinet Works. It will be a great opportunity to establish new connections and “schmooze” with old ones.

Remember our Paid-Up Membership Dinner on February 4th. The event will be free for paid-up members and we’ll be distributing the Membership Gift at the event.
