President’s Message – Winter 2022/23

I hope you are enjoying a happy holiday season with family and friends. It was nice to spend time with many of you at our holiday party – the first in three years — on December 5th at Prime Burger. And despite a small turnout for our December membership meeting on the 21st, members came away with a valuable networking experience and the opportunity to hear from incoming NY State Senator Steven Rhoads. The latkes were a nice holiday bonus!

Strength in Numbers:  As always, our success is defined by you, our members, and your active participation in chamber activities and growth. If your membership is due to expire this December 31st, I hope you will continue the journey with us and renew for 2023. Many of you already have – thank you! If you have not, please consider bundling your membership with SpringFest Sponsorship. Many of our loyal members have been doing this for years; initially with the Fall Festival and now with SpringFest. All metal level sponsors receive free membership, a $150 value, and so much more. I am already a proud Silver Sponsor for this year’s festival on May 7th, as is Ned Marzigliano and State Farm here in Plainview.  I hope you join us in being part of the chamber’s largest annual community event.  Feel free to reach out to me or SpringFest chair Eric Molbegat with any questions or if you’re interested in being part of the vibrant committee that shapes this amazing day.

Happy Anniversary! The POB Chamber Women’s Group is celebrating its 5th year this January. Founder Marianne Plummer sparked the idea in 2018 and the group has been a success from day one. At the inaugural meeting, photographer Alex Wolff offered headshots and there was a roundtable discussion about how networking challenges can often be different for women. Many other speakers gave value to the meetings, especially important during the pandemic when we all needed some extra support.

Looking Ahead:  As we turn the corner into the new year, we have a lot to look forward to here at the chamber. This is a great time to put our regular meeting date (the third Wednesday of every month, except July and August) into your calendar. Please be sure to read our Constant Contact emails to stay informed about all our meetings and networking events, including some multi-chamber ones. Our networking calendar will be filling up soon! And of course, there’s SpringFest. It’s really a great opportunity to be part of something special at the chamber and with the POB community as a whole.

Happy and healthy new year!

David Weinstein
