President’s Message – Fall 2021

We are in the midst of the fall season and the Chamber has so much going on that it may be difficult to share in one message, but I will try!

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate board members David Weinstein and Andrea Goldman for being honored as our Small Businesspersons of the year (for 2021 and 2020, respectively) at the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce Annual Legislative Breakfast at Crest Hollow Country Club on October 29. Not only do David and Andrea sit on the board but they are also Vice Presidents of the Chamber. These awards are only a small way of thanking and recognizing them for their contributions to the Chamber and the POB Community.

Our very active board has been busy putting together a schedule of events that will provide opportunities for members to network and get together. Our next General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday November 17th at the Mid-Island Y JCC and will feature Tami Racaniello, whose talk will focus on habits and techniques to help improve brain function, memory and focus. We will be right back at it on Friday November 19th for a networking breakfast at Coliseum Kitchen.

The board has decided to implement the following safety precautions. At all General Meetings, those that are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED, regardless of your vaccination status. At networking events, such as the Coliseum Kitchen event, masks will not be required, but will be strongly recommended. This Policy will remain in effect through the winter. Please join us in enforcing these guidelines that we feel promote the safe return to in-person gatherings.

Our largest community event, our annual Festival, is in its planning stages. The former Fall Festival is now “SpringFest” and will be held on May 22, 2022 outside at the Mid-Island Y JCC.  We are looking forward to a great day offering many various local craft vendors, great food and family fun. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Elan Wurtzel at elan@wurtzellaw.com, or visit our website at www.pobcoc,.com

Lastly, as many of you know, the Chamber partners with a local charity every year with the goal of raising money and awareness for the charity’s cause. This year we have chosen HELP HOPE LIVE for REBECCA KOLTUN to be our charitable partner. A lifelong Plainview resident, Rebecca suffered a severe spinal cord injury in March and will require a tremendous amount of rehab and care for the rest of her life.

As part of our effort to raise money for Rebecca, we will be conducting a series of online raffles. We ask that everyone not only purchase raffle tickets, but also donate raffle prizes. We are looking for tickets to sporting events, memorabilia items, concert tickets and gift cards. We have also partnered with ONE HOPE Winery which will donate a percentage of proceeds back to our charity. By visiting https://www.onehopewine.com/event/119845, and purchasing wine, we will be raising more money for Rebecca. Any questions regarding how to help us raise money, or if you are able to donate raffle prizes, please contact Board Member, Gregg Jaffe at gjaffetax@yahoo.com

I hope to see all of you at our upcoming events and wish all of you a happy and safe Thanksgiving and Holiday season.

Andrew Lamkin,

POB Chamber President
